Regardless if you're new to the sport or a combat
hardened veteran with dozens of scenario events
to your credit, there's nothing like playing in The
Annual Oklahoma D-Day Event.

For close to a week, this event offers players of
all skill levels an opportunity to become part of
something more than just another 'game.' D-Day
is the world's largest paintball scenario event, bar
none. No other event comes close, regardless of
how you'd like to compare it.

One aspect of what makes this event so unique is
the way players are divided up into two sides, the
allies and the Germans. Most events leave things
there, but not D-Day. Here you'll find a wide array
of units on both sides, some better suited to new
or younger players, some better suited to players
with stong legs and high energy levels. There are
even positions on both sides which even those of
you, who for whatever reason, can't or don't want
to take to the field.

For their part, the Allied Command is broken up
into the same units which actually took part in the
actual invasion, back in 1944. Things are also pretty
much that way when it comes to the Germans, but
since I'm here to try and convince you to join the
Allied Command forgive me if I focus the remaining
portion of this and all subsequent posts on just the
ALLIED COMMAND.

Most players who are thinking of coming to this
event what to know what it'll cost? The answer to
that varies. Some of you might just look to show
up on the morning or evening before the event, while
others might come a week or more before. Other
factors, such as where you stay, what you eat and
the amount of paint you shoot, how many mini-scenarios you take part in, etc., all will impact your
final cost. Bring along a tank and you'd better figure
on using 6-8 cases, jsut for the main event. Spend
time with the many vendors who also make this
event what it is and you'll typically spend more than those who avoid that temptation.

As for what to expect, again this event lets you do
as much or as little as you wish. You can sign up for
an opportunity to fire a variety of 'real' machineguns,
you can also sign up to take a series of professionally
taught tactics classes, or you might opt to spend time
taking the 'Ranger Qualification' Course. If you think
this is a military boot camp, I can assure you that it
isn't. Instead it's an opportunity to spend quality time
with folks from around the world, who all come together
once a year for a good time, as well as to challenge both their opponents and themselves, in ways they can't do anywhere else.

Please watch this thread for further updates as well
as for more details about each of our many Allied units
which are seeking your help and remember what they
all say about this event, "it's only a game till you've
played it."

For more details on the event, all of the units and
other aspects related to it, please check the event's
website, or feel free to contact me directly. Till next
time then take care and stay safe.

Gents and ladies, if you're wanting to roll to DDay this year either by yourself or with friends, the 82nd is looking for a few good mud stompin, paint slingin, door kickin, no name takin, sit around a camp fire eatin, gas producing, all around good people.

Whether you go allied or german, I guarantee you and
your buddies are going to have a blast down in Okie come June. There is no other pball experience like this. Between the 4,000 players, 700 acres, good friends, a camp fire, and lots of delicious frozen chimichangas, you're talking about pball heaven. When it comes to deciding which unit to join and run with, I'm pretty partial to the 82nd myself. It's tough to beat the brotherhood you find with the AAs. Every year Muddy considers who we're going to play for and every year (thus far) we have decided to come back to the 82nd. There are plenty of top notch units on both sides of the field, but it is the people within the 82nd that keep bringing us back year after year. To these guys, there are two simple reasons for coming to DDay: have fun camping with friends, and have fun playing paintball with friends. It doesn't get any better than the basics.

As for the action you'd see running 82nd: we're priviliged to that wonderful "mis-drop". Airborne gets dropped in the boonies, we have to make our way through enemy occupied territory, pushing through ambushes and counter-attacks just to get to our objectives in the first place (which then require a good
delivering of a mud stomping to the Germans currently holding said property).

If you go airborne, in any unit, one thing is for certain: be in shape. We're fast movers. Hit and Run. We have to cover a lot of territory in a short amount of time. It requires some endurance, a desire to play aggressive all out pball, and a hunger for engaging some of the finest units the German army has to throw at us.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for our German counter parts, but of course I love playing against them as well. Some of the finest pballers I have seen in the woodsball community, trying to break up the airborne advance before we can reach our objectives and deliver the allied cavalry. One thing is for certain though, once the airborne arrive, there's a thumpin coming with it. We already have a solid group of core vets returning to the AAs. We're currently looking for individuals players and small teams who are new to the DDay experience.
Vets bring stability, new blood brings passion. If you and your friends are hard chargin, fun lovin, and in decent shape, the 82nd AB would love to have you.

For those looking for a heavier challenge than your average woodsballer receives at DDay, the 82nd's specialty unit (the Pathfinders) offer such an experience. Pathfinders are dropped as a small team inside enemy territory and are tasked with engaging German units much larger in size. Last year, they
were sent in to hold the Valley of Death with the French against the various German regiments and tank divisions. Small unit tactics at its finest. The Pathfinders are the very essence of fast moving and hard hitting. The airborne already requires an age limit of 15 just so you can keep up, it is a demanding journey through the German occupied woods...the Pathfinders will ask even from you. This rag tag group of airborne brothers
and sisters is almost full, but there is still room for a handful of individuals or a team who is looking for the ultimate challenge at DDay.

If this sounds like your style of play, then let us know. We'd love to have you and your friends running with us.

Whichever road you take, German or Allied, you will not regret it. A chance to do some camping in the summer with some of the finest people you will ever meet, grilling out brauts, sitting around a campfire, and paint slinging with your buddies. Life is good. Welcome to DDay.

Taylor Davis,

Funny you should mention Ray's the mustache,
because that's exactly what a group of officers did
last year. They went and bought a box of fake
ones and sprang them on Sir Ray during his high
tea party. As you might imagine, he was surprised
to see his was no longer the largest.

On a more serious note, time for players to register for
D-Day is starting to wind down, so if you're planning on
joining the Commonwealth, or any of the other Allied
Command units, now is a good time to get signed up.

After about 15 April they limit your choices to which
side you'll be on and then in May they take even that
choice away from you.

For more details on each of the many ALLIED units
you're best bet is to check out what's going on over
on the Official Oklahoma D-Day forum. I'll save you
the time of looking for the link, just click here-

Join the 4th ID at Oklahoma D-Day 2010, since its creation as a unit in 2006,

the 4th has never failed and have always succeeded at taking Utah beach for

4 straight years this year. Come join a winning team with a winning attitude,

this is the unit you want to join for your first year. Not only fighting on one

of the most developed focal points of the field, but also taking part in the

Battle for the Causeway, Airfield then Colleville itself!

Come see what really means to be a player at Oklahoma D-Day, its only a

game till you've played it! We always give everyone a chance and that has

proven why we have done so well as a unit and why our retention rates keep

getting higher and higher!

BTW, when was the last time you can recall a player taking the time to

put something like this clip together, not for money, but out of pride in

being a member of a unit, a unit that plays together for just one week

a year.

Thanks Kevin for the hard work and for showing everyone why D-Day

is the world's biggest paintball event and why the 4th ID the unit people

ought to join if they're planning on coming.

As I understand it, Viper is getting ready to
release some news about LL3. This year (09)
they held LL2 right at the end of May. That
means if they hold to that same general time,
it'll be held about two weeks prior to D-Day,
which is set to run between June 7th-13th.
Factors which may influence when LL3 is held
in 2010 include the fact that both events could
now be sponored by the same paint makers.
Of course this may have no impact on things,
then again it might.
